Hybrid Cathodic Protection Systems

Hy-TEC® combines sacrificial anodes and impressed current for optimum protection. Versatile and innovative, it adapts to all sailing conditions and reduces polarisation time.

What is it?

Hy-TEC® by Tecnoseal is a hybrid cathodic protection system comprising two sacrificial anodes and an active impressed current system. This product was developed in response to the need to equip small to medium-sized hulls with a versatile cathodic protection system capable of ensuring more efficient protection between dry-docking intervals. Hy-TEC® also serves to ‘assist’ the work of the sacrificial anodes during the initial polarisation phase of the connected structures.

The technology has been designed for use on fibreglass and composite boats.

An important feature of Hy-TEC® is its ability to work with all four alloys produced by Tecnoseal. This ensures the system functions in salt water, brackish water and fresh water.

General characteristics and operation

Hy-TEC® supplies the current required to protect the metal parts connected to the system, supplementing the protection provided by the sacrificial anodes as they naturally wear out and maintaining the correct electrochemical potential.

The system includes an integrated monitoring probe, which reads the electrochemical potentials, constantly informing the booster unit that regulates the activated titanium electrode (Ti-MMO). When the protection potential falls below a preset threshold (usually due to the consumption of the sacrificial anodes), the booster activates and supplies current through the Ti-MMO plate to restore the correct values for protection against galvanic currents.

The probe can also be connected to our ATOM® system for continuous monitoring of the vessel’s protection potentials. Another key advantage of Hy-TEC® is its ability to accelerate the polarisation process, significantly reducing the activation times typically associated with sacrificial anodes.

It is mainly used to protect metal appendages such as: Tenderlifts, azimuth pods, trim tabs and more.

How we manufacture it

All components are manufactured at Tecnoseal’s factories.

The circuit board is manufactured by one of Tecnoseal’s trusted, long-standing partners.

System components

Tecnoseal monitoring probe, titanium electrode, MMO, sacrificial anodes, active protection, passive protection

  1. Booster unit: monitors the cathodic protection conditions and activates when necessary to ensure correct protection levels.
  2. Sacrificial anodes: for the passive cathodic protection of all metal parts connected to them.
  3. Base plate: for mounting the system on the hull. The plate is fitted with through-hull bolts for connecting the two cathodic protection systems (passive via sacrificial anodes and active via the booster unit).

Why choose Tecnoseal

- Reduces the polarisation times of sacrificial anodes

- It is compatible with all Tecnoseal anodic alloys

- Ensures protection between refits
