Tecnoseal’s ICCP (Impressed Current Cathodic Protection) systems offer active protection against corrosion, ensuring the long-term safety of underwater structures.

Stand-alone or booster solutions are available to suit every requirement.


What are they?

Impressed current cathodic protection systems are used to protect structures immersed in seawater from galvanic currents.

They are typically used for the cathodic protection of large vessels (commercial ships), but in recent years they have also been installed on pleasure craft (yachts and mega-yachts).

They are mainly installed on iron/steel vessels, but recently these systems have also been used on aluminium vessels.

These types of systems are generally used on motorboats, although they can also be installed on sailing boats, provided certain precautions are taken.

What do they protect against?


ICCP systems, also known as active cathodic protection systems, are an alternative to traditional passive protection systems based on the use of sacrificial anodes.


How we manufacture them


They are manufactured in collaboration with established partner companies.

There are typically two types of impressed current cathodic protection systems:

  1. Standalone ICCP systems
  2. Booster ICCP systems


How they work


Both systems are based on the same operating principle. The fundamental difference is that the stand-alone system is the only cathodic protection system installed on the vessel, whereas in the case of the booster system, both a sacrificial anode system and an impressed current system are installed simultaneously.

The ICCP booster system is increasingly used on large vessels with passive cathodic protection (sacrificial anodes) and without a defined dry-docking schedule.

The ICCP booster system (always on) will automatically activate once the sacrificial anodes have ceased to be effective.
